Oh, Well

I think I'm going to have a pretty deformed toenail on my big left toe. :) It used to be nice to look at, according to some passerbyers, but those days are most certainly over. I cracked the nail *big time* on Christmas Eve when I landed after an energized, high-velocity leap across an ally-way street in South Philly. I wanted to make it to the other side of the street. I did make it and I felt the deep and exciting joy of VICTORY! I also felt the PAIN of victory. I landed with so much forward force that my toe slammed against the inside of the front of my shoe. CRACK. yes. CRACK. My toenail cracked almost all the way across the base part. Fun! Anyway, it's been interesting to watch it heal. I had an appt. with a podiatrist, but I chickened out in a couple of ways and I didn't go. Now, however, I'm thinking that I should have. My nail is starting to grow down into my skin on the top (not the side) of my toe and it's only halfway up the part that is bare. Hmmm.... Some people used to say that I had pretty toes. Now they're pretty deformed. Oh, well. :) The good news is that I never thought my toes were anything to look at anyway... until now, that is. You oughta see her. !!!! My students squirm and hold themselves when they get a good look at it. It's pretty cool. :)

Some Friends Really Know How...

... to be such sunshine in my heart. It's amazing how spending time with a friend on the phone last night made my world, which was fine anyway, a million times more okay, hilarious, colorful, alive, and SWEET. The very first things that I will thank God for are all of the friends that I have had on this side of time. My friends are totally connected to any good or wonderful thing that has ever happened in my life. Thank you, friends! And thank you, friend, who made me smile a lot AND laugh really, REALLY hard last night! :) :) :)

Last Night As I Was Sleeping

by Antonio Machado (version by Robert Bly)

Last night as I was sleeping,
I dreamt - marvelous error! -
that a spring was breaking
out in my heart.
I said: Along which secret aqueduct,
Oh water, are you coming to me,
water of a new life
that I have never drunk?

Last night as I was sleeping,
I dreamt - marvelous error! -
that I had a beehive
here inside my heart.
And the golden bees
were making white combs
and sweet honey
from my old failures.

Last night as I was sleeping,
I dreamt - marvelous error! -
that a fiery sun was giving
light inside my heart.
It was fiery because I felt
warmth as from a hearth,
and sun because it gave light
and brought tears to my eyes.

Last night as I slept,
I dreamt - marvelous error! -
that it was God I had
here inside my heart.

If You're Gonna Punch a Basim...

Then he'll never let you meet him.

Trust me, you wanna meet him. He's simply great. Swell, very swell personality. His strong, bold, believing, and gutsy heart will leave a forever impression. His right big toe is great, too. And he has a foreign body in his body.

If you want, I can dress up like Basim and you can punch me and get it over with so that you can get to the good stuff (that is, Basim and his foreign body).
