My Cold Feet

My feet pretty much don't ever get cold. I can wear flip-flops in December.

Well, maybe my feet *sometimes* get cold... like when I'm about to go out on a first date... when I'm about to speak in front of an audience made up of people who are taller than 4 feet... and when I'm about to do something else that is absolutely scary.

I got cold feet two days ago.

There are some difficult situations that I can avoid all together. There are some uncomfortable and scary things that I just have to face. Sakes. Those things that fit in the latter category can really EAT MY LUNCH. ick.

I don't like it when my lunch has been eaten by *ick*, so....

I've been working on being more brave in life. Being strong and having freedom from fear are important things to me. Sometimes (and sometimes a lot of the time), I still get knocked off my feet. It's really embarrassing. However, thanks to one of my dear friends who shows me how to see creation (which includes me, my weaknesses, and my dear struggles) in completely new ways, I can see how being WRESTLED down to the GROUND (dirt in mouth and nostrils and all) is beautiful and quite necessary...

I held a baby squirrel this afternoon.

So, so sweet... It was about 6 weeks old and so incredibly trusting.

Here's the story:

They chopped down a pine tree on campus yesterday. At some point, they found a hole in the trunk and inside that hole were three baby squirrels.

Long story short: Human intervention is definitely necessary if these babies are to survive. One of our staff members adopted all three of them for the weekend. I might take over the care of two of the squirrels on Monday.

How wonderful it was to hold one of the babies and gaze upon the other two while they remained curled up together in their hopefully cozy sleep...

It changes.

Life. In a second, it changes so significantly. I know this. I expect it. I need it. I love it (most of the time). But, wow. I still try my best to keep the most BIG-TIME important things to me stable. I do everything that is within my control to keep those things the same. But they change. They move. They leave. And if they remain, they still change.

Something just happened moments ago and my life is going to be extremely different because of it. Because of it, the scale of my decision-making process just tilted a lot.

Wow, again.
