you sure are picking on me a lot lately. i used a short o in that spot to make sure that it was read in the way that is was said. i knew what i was doing. however, i do like the "ho ho" possibility. santa is cool. i like him. i'm wondering about how you know about the phrase "get back here, ho!"?
Personally, I like to think that our dear Shakespeare was the first to pen the phrase, "What, ho[!?]," as in: "Be merry, Kate. Some water, here; what, ho!" The Taming of the Shrew: IV, i, or another favorite: "Nurse! wife! what, ho! what, nurse, I say!" Romeo and Juliet: IV, iv It just makes me smile a little to read William out of context...
The best was in 9th grade when we were reading Romeo and Juliet aloud in English class and the girl next to me (whose English had somewhat of an ebony flavor) read the line: "What, HO?" We all laughed a little and the old guy teaching had no idea why...
